Might of Earth probably should be folded into Earth Rage, perhaps swapping something out for Fissure.

I can see merit in adding some other "My name is huge" stuff to Kaiju and renaming it Titan.

Maxus did lasers:
Lasers
  • Hyperbeam
  • Solar Beam
  • Ice Beam
  • Aurora Beam
  • Psybeam
  • Bubblebeam
  • Signal Beam
  • Zap Cannon
  • Focus Blast
  • Flash Cannon
(I added a few to it)

A few others that need covering, too:

Piggy
Hippo
Mirror Magic
Spring Attacker
Shapeshifter

Though arguably Hippo could be folded into Piggy as each has very few Pokemon and, according to a reliable source (Borat), hippos are pigs. Shapeshifter could possibly be folded into Ditto.

We could probably make the numeric Dex, yeah

By the way, Dark Void should be added to Nightmare list.

Water Fowl
  • Tailwind

Note: wherever I use Mud Layer and Water Layer, it's to replace ___ Sport. Nothing wrong with Mud Sport, but I can't stand the idea of a move called Water Sport. If you don't know why, Google it.

Wading Pool
  • Splash!
  • Surf
  • Waterfall
  • Aqua Jet
  • Rain Dance
  • Mist
  • Tickle
  • Hydro Pump
  • Water Layer
  • Bubble
  • Bubble Beam
  • Ice Fang
  • Whirlpool
  • Water Gun
  • Aqua Tail
  • Ice Beam

That's understandable. But I really think that half the fun of Cloysters (the innuendo pokemon) is the fact that they have:

Withdraw
Attract
Clamp
Endure
Torment

and so on. And they look like a giant vagina with a pierced clit.

The fact that there's a whole world of fun to be had with Swampert, based on the fact that his mudshot comes right from his midsection and can have a move called "water sport" is just icing on the innuendo salad.

Fair enough then, we'll keep Water Sport. I suppose a bit of giggling from time to time doesn't hurt (see: Great Cleave).

There's still some conflicts between the lists on Formian Queen, Lanturn, Poliwrath, Couatl, Succubus, and maybe some I missed. Ice Mephit is on the Ice list twice.

Type issues:
  • Epimeliad currently isn't on the Grass list, which means that Dryads would lose their Grass type on evolution, which is just weird.
  • Nimblewrights look like they should be Steel/Fighting rather than Steel.
  • Bulbasaur is Grass/Poison according to Bulbapedia, but it isn't on the Poison list. I'm personally fine with us leaving it pure Grass-type, as long as I know that's an actual decision.
  • Thoqqua seems like it should be either Fire/Ground or Fire/Rock than the pure Fire it's listed as.
We don't have Air, Earth, or Water Weirds, of the ones that actually appear in D&D. Also no Unicorns, unless we're folding those into Rapidash or something. None of the color-coded dragons are on their respective lists other than the red dragons on the fire list. Chimeras are also not there that I can see.

...

Also, I have no idea what the heck Absur'd is supposed to be, beyond an evolution of Farfetch'd. O_o

Okay, so, Abilities. Shouldn't be too hard to get a list of them:
  • Adaptability
  • Aftermath
  • Air Lock
  • Anger Point
  • Anticipation
  • Arena Trap
  • Bad Dreams
  • Battle Armour
  • Blaze
  • Chlorophyll
  • Clear Body
  • Cloud Nine
  • Colour Change
  • Compound Eyes
  • Cute Charm
  • Damp
  • Download
  • Drizzle
  • Drought
  • Dry Skin
  • Early Bird
  • Effect Spore
  • Filter
  • Flame Body
  • Flash Fire
  • Flower Gift
  • Forecast
  • Frisk
  • Gluttony
  • Guts
  • Heatproof
  • Honey Gather
  • Huge Power
  • Hustle
  • Hydration
  • Hyper Cutter
  • Ice Body
  • Illuminate
  • Immunity
  • Inner Focus
  • Insomnia
  • Intimidate
  • Iron Fist
  • Keen Eye
  • Klutz
  • Leaf Guard
  • Levitate
  • Lightning Rod
  • Limber
  • Liquid Ooze
  • Magic Guard
  • Magma Armour
  • Magnet Pull
  • Marvel Scale
  • Minus
  • Mold Breaker
  • Motor Drive
  • Multitype
  • Natural Cure
  • No Guard
  • Normalise
  • Oblivious
  • Overgrow
  • Own Tempo
  • Pick Up
  • Plus
  • Poison Heal
  • Poison Point
  • Pressure
  • Pure Power
  • Quick Feet
  • Rain Dish
  • Reckless
  • Rivalry
  • Rock Head
  • Rough Skin
  • Run Away
  • Sand Stream
  • Sand Veil
  • Scrappy
  • Serene Grace
  • Shadow Tag
  • Shed Skin
  • Shell Armour
  • Shield Dust
  • Simple
  • Skill Link
  • Slow Start
  • Sniper
  • Snow Cloak
  • Snow Warning
  • Solar Power
  • Solid Rock
  • Sound Proof
  • Speed Boost
  • Stall
  • Static
  • Steadfast
  • Stench
  • Sticky Hold
  • Storm Drain
  • Sturdy
  • Suction Cups
  • Super Luck
  • Swarm
  • Swift Swim
  • Synchronise
  • Tangled Feet
  • Technician
  • Thick Fat
  • Tinted Lens
  • Torrent
  • Trace
  • Truant
  • Unaware
  • Unburden
  • Vital Spirit
  • Volt Absorb
  • Water Absorb
  • Water Veil
  • White Smoke
  • Wonder Guard
And that's a lot, but it's manageable. A few are so similar that it could be trimmed down a bit.

Mephits would get:
Plate Holder: their type changes when they are given the right kind of elemental plate to hold.

I can see the dragons getting something in the region of Shed Skin/Intimidate. Pretty standard.

Nymphs probably get Cute Charm, maybe Sirines and Dryads too, though Sirines could also have Swift Swim or Water Absorb or something, and Dryads could possibly have Chlorophyll or something.

I could see the Archons all having Intimidate or Pressure (Aura of Menace). Obviously I want to say Slaad all get "Giant Frog", but maybe they should get an actual ability that does something.

Tiamat could get the boring Pressure for being a Legendary, or could have something related to having FIVE HEADS (possibly even a "Your Breath Weapons all do more damage") or something.

Succubus: Cute Charm? Marilith: Shed Skin?

That's exactly what it is. Last time I was regularly on any pokemon battling forums it was sort of a recurring thing. I thought it'd be nice to add.

Okay, I assume the next step will be assigning stats to the Pokemon (as well as deciding what the rate of stat increase will be - should higher-cost Pokemon just get higher base stats, or should they also get more per level?) and assigning Abilities.

Also if we decide on the standards for moves, we can begin the process of statting out the actual moves.

For example:
(A = user, X = targets are hit in this square, B = user's final position (if different from A. The moves can be rotated in 90 degree increments.)

Ember Prepared Power [Fire]
Level: Fire Master 2, Fire Starter 2
Attack: automatic
Damage: 1d6 Fire per 2 levels
-Not Very Effective: 1d4 Fire per 2 levels
-Super Effective: 1d6 Fire per level
Added Effect: Intelligence vs Hardness causes Burn
Area:

Code: Select all

      X
  A XXX
      X
Flamethrower At Will Power [Fire]
Level: Dragon 11, Fire Starter 9, Blaster 15
Attack: Intelligence vs Hardness
Damage: 1d6 Fire per level
-Not Very Effective: 1d6 Fire per 2 levels
-Super Effective: 1d8 Fire per level
Added Effect: Burn
Area:

Code: Select all

         X
      X X
  A XX X
      X X
         X
Seems a bit lengthy, but on the face of it not too bad. I mean, you could fit them on cards. The idea here is that effectiveness basically just scales damage up or down. You could even just have a standard based on words, like: Weak (1d6 per 2 levels), Moderate (1d6 per level) and Strong (1d8 per level), and Weak that is downgraded becomes 1d4 per 2 levels, Strong that is upgraded becomes 2d6 per level and you can figure out the rest. That way, NVE and SE could be cut out entirely and Damage would just be "Weak Fire" for Ember and "Moderate Fire" for Flamethrower.

Note: this example makes the assumption that At Wills, as they can be swapped in, actually make attack rolls using the stats (not sure if this is a good idea, given stats might end up differing by fuckhuge numbers based on tier) whereas Prepared moves, having to rely on making guesses, auto-hit. We might not want to go with this. We might want to mostly ditch the stats and have everything auto-hit. Maybe just use the stats to determine special effects (meaning Heatran always burns Pidgey and Charmander never burns Giratina). Or maybe the stats are used for NVE/SE (where SE adds, in this case, user's Intelligence, to the damage, and NVE subtracts target Hardness from the damage).

So as you can see, there are a lot of what-ifs and maybes and stuff. Note that, because many Abilities interact with moves, we need to at least get the basics figured out before we can move onto what Abilities do.

Right, so, here's what we could expect from a table of all the moves. I just covered all the moves that fall under the various Fire movelists, however I also noted where they appear in other lists.

Feel free to treat the actual numbers as "X", I'm throwing examples out there in my attempt to keep this project moving.

Also, some thoughts:
1. Feats: aye or nay? Those weird outlier moves or egg moves could probably be snagged this way.
2. Held items. I can see it being a good thing if Pokemon can only hold a single thing at a time, mostly because each person has up to six, so that's a lot of crap to keep track of if everyone has full gear and every pokemon does as well.
3. The limit. Is it "6 Pokemon you can own, ever", "you can own as many as you want but only actually carry six around with you at a time" or "You can even carry a hundred pokeballs with you, but you can only have six of them out and controlled at a time."? Seeing as everyone will actually need to write all the sheets out, it seems the more pokemon people can have, the less info you'll want on the sheets lest people need to carry filing cabinets around.
4. Linked to the above, how's XP to be handled? Every pokemon who takes part gets a share? Every pokemon you own gets a share? Pokemon don't exactly get XP, Trainers do and when they level up, they can spend their command points on levelling pokemon they own?

I do like the idea of feats for the reason you laid out, plus it gives a way to add in things that don't necessarily fit anywhere else yet should still be included. Same for held items, definitely want to have them, and an extremely harsh limit makes a lot of sense.

As far as the limit on number of pokemon goes. I like the "you can own as many as you want but only actually carry six around with you at a time" option. I guess that leads to the questions of where you store your extras and how do you switch them out and when is it feasible to do so. A huge part of the fun of pokemon (and I imagine this would translate to this project as well) is making teams and having six as a hard limit sort of squelches that. At the same time, having a large amount on hand that you can switch in and out from your active team during an actual adventure would require a lot of book keeping. So I think having to decide on a team per adventure is a nice happy medium. It might be prudent to make it possible to switch something out for a new pokemon you just caught, although I'm sure there are a number of problems with that that I'm not seeing at this hour.

For XP, it probably is a good idea to give trainers XP and let them spend their command points on levelling pokemon. That sort of neatly avoids the problem of a pokemon levelling up and suddenly you can't use the same team you were a second ago because your point value just exceeded your limit. I guess that's not a problem if getting XP doesn't force a pokemon to level. I'm still in favor of trainer's getting XP, and practically speaking they get to divvy up their XP however they want.

The jRPG equipment system where someone can have a ribbon or a ring or a scarf is kind of retarded. But it does work. Harsh item limits are almost certainly a very good idea.

Oh, I agree that it's retarded, but it really seems to be what must be done.

I also agree that the Pokemon method of having nine million of the bastards but only actually carrying up to 6 at a time is the best thing to do. I hadn't considered "Swap between adventured, not during" but I like that idea.

So the actual movelists are going to end up looking something like this:

Pain in the Grass
LevelAbilityType
1Vine WhipGrass
1AbsorbGrass
3WrapNormal
5Leech SeedGrass
6Poison PowderPoison
6Razor LeafGrass
7IngrainGrass
9Mega DrainGrass
9EntangleGrass
10Energy BallGrass
11Magical LeafGrass
13Seed BombGrass
15Power WhipGrass
16Thorn FieldGrass
16Solar BeamGrass
18Frenzy PlantGrass

Does that look legible enough? Should we put more information on that table? There's totally room for more information (area in squares or number of potential targets, for example).

If we made sure that no level ever gave out more than one prepared or at-will power (by for example: making Thornfield an At-will), we could display the information like this:

Pain in the Grass
LevelAt WillTypePreparedType
1Vine WhipGrassAbsorbGrass
2----
3--WrapNormal
4----
5--Leech SeedGrass
6Razor LeafGrassPoison PowderPoison
7--IngrainGrass

13--Seed BombGrass
14----
15--Power WhipGrass
16Thorn FieldGrassSolar BeamGrass
17----
18--Frenzy PlantGrass
19----
20----

Same information. Is it clearer this way?

I prefer the second option. It looks clearer to me, and sorting powers by colors means there's something additional I need to memorize.

The latter one is probably better, yeah. Also, as the lists are updated I can quickly see where I fucked up and left too many blank levels or overloaded levels with too much stuff, and can fix that.

I'm not sure it really needs any more information - people will be referencing the actual move descriptions anyway.

Let's get some ICE lists going!

As usual, I notice the occasional error on my part. For instant "Ice Darts" (Frosty list) is totally meant to be "Icicle Spear" (already included on the Water chart).

FUCK! Guess who accidentally chose "Edit" instead of "Quote" to use the Psychic table!

Here it is, copy-pastad from using the Back button, into pastebin. I'd love it if someone else could table it, I can't be fucked. Psychic is too fucking long.
